First Field Trip of New Club Year Announced
This will be a day trip, but you can make arrangements to stay overnight if you like. It is about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Bowie to the Steam Into History Terminal, located at 2 West Main Street, New Freedom, Pennsylvania.
We will be meeting at the Glen Rock Mill Inn, 50 Water St Glen Rock, Pa., when they open at 11:00 a.m.
Built in 1837 as a woolen mill, the historic Glen Rock Mill Inn features unique dining areas adorned by roughhewn 14′ beams, original stone and brick work, a spring-fed fountain, and a collection of antiques, many from the 19th century. Their seasonal menu features fresh regional ingredients and changes frequently based on the availability of local produce. They purchase locally whenever possible. The item prices seem very reasonable.
After lunch we will head to the start of the trip at the Gift Shop/Terminal. The rides are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The day trip will have four photo opportunities with three run-bys where we will detrain. The train will be backed away while we set up to shoot pictures, and the train will then run by under power. The fourth opportunity will be at Hanover Junction. This ride will last about three hours.
The evening trip will include stills only. The train will be in three different locations with lighting set up for the photos. The spots will include Glen Rock, Hanover Junction and New Freedom at the renovated train station. This train will have limited seating. This ride will also last between three and three and one-half hours.
The individual pricing for the 1:00 train ride is $30.00. The discount for a group of 20 or more is $27.10. The individual pricing for the evening ride at 6:30 is $40.00. The discounted price for a group of 20 or more will be $36.10. If we have enough people interested, we can charter coaches. Pricing for the combination coach is
$700.00 and will seat 26 people. Charter pricing for the traditional coach is $1600.00. This includes, 58 seats. Charter pricing for the 4 Season (Open coach) is $1100.00, this includes 40 plus seats. As these trips fill up fast I suggest you get your tickets as soon as you can after the link is posted.
