1.“2024 PSA Photo Gathering -Indonesia” and the “Baliem Valley Festival” – presented by Henry NG, HonFPSA, EPSA, EFIAP
Henry will present the details and images captured during the 2024 “PSA Photo Gathering” and the “Balliem Valley Festival” in Indonesia.
In 2023, PSA has started a new international program called “PSA Photo Gathering” under the leadership of PSA International Vice President. The objective of the annual PSA Photo Gathering is to promote international exchanges among the photographers in the world as well to as provide more photographic opportunities and activities in different parts of the world for PSA members. The 1st PSA Photo Gathering was conducted in India in 2023 and the 2nd one was conducted in JAVA, Indonesia in 2024.
The Baliem Valley Festival, also known as the Pasola Festival, is a cultural event in Indonesia's Papua Province, specifically within the Baliem Valley. It showcases the traditions of various tribes, including the Dani, Lani, and Yali, through mock tribal warfare, traditional dances, and other cultural performances. The festival is held annually in August and aims to preserve the culture and values of the indigenous tribes.
2. “How to Transform a Photograph into a Painting” — presented by Kieu Lan
Ms. Kieu Lan started her photography career in 1983, following her graduation from George Washington University, using a Mamiya SLR as her first camera. She has been a long-time shooter, and her work consists of Macro, landscapes, travel, street photography, and black & white photography. Her approach to photography is to want to use her camera to find beauty in the things and people around her, and that can be accomplished through various shooting styles available to today’s photographers, such as High Key Flower Photography, Intentional Camera Movement (ICM), Long Exposure, and Multiple Exposure, just to name a few.
In 2019, during COVID, Kieulan picked up an online digital painting course using Adobe Photoshop with a graphics tablet and stylus pen. This media has opened her up to another level of creativity that she never knew she had.
In 2021, Kieulan retired from a government job and became a full-time photographer and digital artist. She now enjoys travelling to different countries with my family and spends time capturing the beautiful landscapes as well as street photography. I really enjoy capturing the beauty of the cities and the day-to-day life of the local people.
When not traveling, Kieulan enjoys creating digital paintings of flowers and pets. Since 2017, she has been building up her Painting Orchid Collection, and currently, she is learning other painting techniques using iColorama and Procreate.
Kieulan resides in Virginia, and when not behind the camera, she is a volunteer at The Vietnamese Photographic Society located in Northern Virginia. For the last ten years, she has been involved with the Vietnamese Photographic Society, and it has been a wonderful experience. Being a lover of photography, she likes to give back to the photographic community through teaching and encouraging others to learn this wonderful art form of photography.
