2018 National Juried Photography Exhibit

The Delaplaine Arts Center, located in historic downtown, Frederick, Maryland, announces the 2018 National Juried Photography Exhibit. All photographs are eligible. Exhibit dates are November 3 –November 25, 2018.

Juror: Richard Nowitz, photographer for National Geographic.

Awards: First place: $1,000

Second Place: $500 Third Place: $250 Honorable Mention: $125

Submission Deadline: Monday, September 24th, 2018

Specifications: All photographs black & white, color, non-silver, computer-manipulated, digital or pinhole are eligible. Size limitation: 48” in any one direction.

Fee: $35 per artist for up to 3 images (Fee submitted via EntryThingy).

Notification: Accepted works will be posted on our website (delaplaine.org/npe2018) no later than 5 PM on October 12.

About the juror: Richard Nowitz is a National Geographic photographer of 26 years and an Educational Press Association's Award recipient for Excellence in Educational Journalism. Conducting assignments all over the globe, his pictures frequent the world’s leading international travel guides and magazines, including GEO, Smithsonian, Time, U.S. News & World Report, and Conde Nast Traveler.

Entry Instructions: Visit our website: delaplaine.org; click on exhibits and the 2018 National Juried Photography Exhibit is on a drop list. There you will find a link to take you to our online EntryThingy portal.

Fee: $35 per artist for up to three (3) images ($25 if artist is a current member of the Delaplaine). VISA, Mastercard, Discover and American Express are accepted.

Number of Pieces: Artists may submit up to three (3) entries (in JPEG format) for consideration. One digital image of each entire piece is required.

Conditions of Exhibition:

Artwork for exhibition must have been completed in the last 2 years and not previously exhibited at the Delaplaine. Artwork must remain on view for the duration of the exhibit. The Delaplaine reserves the right to refuse any work for any reason.

Artists are solely responsible for shipping, delivery/pick-up, and any unusual installation requirements. Shipped work must contain a prepaid return shipping label. FedEx and UPS are preferred shippers. All shipping materials will be reused and returned.

Photography must be fitted firmly in a frame with wire for hanging. Simple frames are encouraged. Saw- tooth hangers or easel back frames are not permitted. Gallery wrapped works are accepted.

The Delaplaine will insure the artwork from the time of delivery until the designated pick-up time (for an amount that shall not exceed the sale price less commission). Any work left at the Delaplaine for longer than the designated pick-up dates may be disposed of at the Center’s discretion.

The Delaplaine will retain a 30% commission for any works sold during the show, and a 20% commission for Delaplaine members. Submission of an entry indicates the artist commits the work to this exhibit unless not selected.

Submission of an entry constitutes permission to photograph it for publicity purposes and agreement with all conditions set forth in this prospectus.

Instructions for Accepted Entrants: Accepted works must be delivered to the Delaplaine by Thursday, October 25.

Pick up dates: Sunday, November 25, 4-5 PM; Monday, November 26 10 AM- 5 PM
