April Field Trip to Eastern State Penitentiary

On Saturday April 6, 2013, B-CCC will visit Eastern State Penitentiary, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Eastern State Penitentiary was once the most famous and expensive prison in the world. Known for its grand architecture and strict discipline, this was the world’s first true “penitentiary,” a prison designed to inspire penitence, or true regret, in the hearts of convicts. Its vaulted, sky-lit cells once held many of America’s most notorious criminals, including bank robber “Slick Willie” Sutton and Al Capone.

The price for our access to this historic property will be $14.00 per person (cash only). Street parking generally ranges from $3.00 to $10.00 depending on the length of your stay.

Eastern State Penitentiary occupies one city block. This can be a day trip for some or an overnight stay if you choose. Because of the distance (about 2.5 hours drive from Bowie), it is suggested that folks get a hotel room in the area the night before. Make reservations now, if you think you may want rooms as many of the hotels are filling up.

We can meet for breakfast in the morning before our tour if people would like, and again for lunch afterwards. Carpooling and sharing of hotel rooms is recommended to save on expenses. Tripods are welcome for an additional $10.00.
