B-CCC Field Trip to Abandoned Silk Mill

B-CCC will visit an abandoned silk mill, located in Western Maryland, for our field trip in March. The mill is located in Lonaconing, Maryland, which is south of Frostburg. Ground was broken for construction of the mill in 1905, and it was an active, working mill until 1957, when it closed. Since that time, little has changed in the building. All of the working equipment is still there, just as it was left when operations ceased more than 55 years ago.

We will have access to the mill from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9. Because of the distance (about 3 hours drive from Bowie), it is suggested that folks get a hotel room in the area the night before. We can meet for breakfast in the morning before our tour if people would like, and again for lunch afterwards.

The price for our access to this historic property will be $75.00 per person (cash only). Carpooling and sharing of hotel rooms is recommended to save on expenses. Tripods are welcome. We will have full access to the entire building and grounds for the full four hours.

If you are interested in coming on this excursion, please contact me by e-mail at vincentferrari@gmail. com, or by phone at 301-249-2210. I will send details to those who sign up.
