Correction to Field Trip Article
The date posted in the Viewfinder for the late-October field trip was in error. The correct date is October 26.
Here is the corrected article:
The Chestertown field trip to the Downrigging will be on Friday October 26. The Downrigging is the last sailing
weekend of the year. Tall ships gather in Chestertown, Maryland, and offer rides. There are dinners and many
celebrations throughout the weekend. The highlight is the illumination of the rigging and the fireworks on Friday
evening and Saturday evening.
The fireworks are to start at 7:00 p.m., so plan on meeting in the parking lot prior to crossing the bridge that
crosses into Chestertown at about 6:00 p.m. After the fireworks I plan to continue the field trip by going to Havre
de Grace and spending the night. There are several motels in the area. I plan to stay at the Super 8-Havre de
Grace-Aberdeen, at 929 Pulaski Hwy in Haver de Grace. Their phone number is 410-939-1880.
We plan to be at the Concord Lighthouse in the morning for sunrise and then continue on to Conowingo Dam to
take pictures of the eagles. After the eagles, I have planned to take the trip on to the 200-year-old Rock Run Grist
Mill. We will then travel through a few local towns to Port Deposit, a quaint old port town where we will finish the
field trip. For those who are still with us we will stop at Tidewater Grill for a nice dinner.
This is a field trip that you can join and leave at your pleasure. Meet us at the Downrigging or at the Concord
Lighthouse in Havre de Grace at sunrise on Saturday, or you can call me on my cell during the trip and I’ll give you
our location. My cell number is 443-532-7822.
